Environmental Tourism:
Experience Mindanao!
In Mindanaoan parlance, “
hiyas” stands for precious gems, signifying the love of
Mother Nature. Only such a word can represent Mindanao, an island of diverse people and cultures. In fact, Mindanao is the most multi-cultural region in all of the Philippine archipelago.
The unique and natural beauty of Mindanao is truly a “
hiyas” that has captivated many, and has blossomed into an annual search for beauty and prestige to showcase the diversity of the land.
Hence, there could be no other way to call the island’s most beautiful and intelligent woman than
“
Hiyas ng Mindanao.”
The
Hiyas ng Mindanao beauty pageant is a quest for showcasing such lovely diversity, featuring the most authentic cultural presentations of people and places, as well as the colorful dances harmoniously blending with the best that Mother Nature has to offer.

Today,
Hiyas ng Mindanao, as an island-wide institution with a quest for beauty and intelligence among women in Mindanao, has become
one of the prime movers in promoting
peace and unity among Lumad,
Christians and Muslims.
Moreover, this annual event aims to generate an awareness of the importance of management and preservation of the world’s natural resources.
Another goal is to inspire the young to be pro-active individuals, and be strongly motivated to advocate
the socio-cultural and economic development of the island.
It is in this light that the
Sigma Beta Sorority of Cagayan de Oro City, with the full support of
Kagayhaan Foundation Inc., together with the
Department of Tourism Region 10 and the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office of Region 10, in cooperation with
StickyMedia Solutions Inc.,
Philippine Tourism Authority and the
local government units, and with the special participation of the multi-sectoral organizations proudly present this year’s search for a woman of
beauty and intelligence that best embodies the essence of a precious Mindanao gem.
In addition, various stockholders and advocates for peace and unity in Mindanao are also participants in this event.
